From the start, I want to apologise (never a good start)! This is my first go at producing a website, so if it looks
bad, don't elect me for Web Officer for CF.
Fortunately I am standing on 3 key premises, none of which require me to be good with websites:
1. We need to win our target seats!
2. We need to continue to provide high quality events in a number of locations around the UK.
3. We need to ensure effective communciation with our membership.
I can only provide my ideas at this stage, because it will entirely depend on who is Chairman, and who else is on the
NME. I will listen to all suggestions made and vote according to their merit.
What have I done this year?
Some people say the exec has not done very much this year, but I disagree. I do agree that it could be bigger and better
and more effective though. At the start of the year we were told by the Senior Party that they wanted to see more 25-30 year
olds involved in CF. With that in mind I have:
- Chaired the committee responsible for highly successful working life conference over 50% female delegates, attendees from
around the country, and a number of people who are new to CF, but are now itching to get even more involved.
- Delivered policy discussions on housing, the reform of the House of Lords with further events on police reform, and energy
to follow;
- Encouraged new members through our New Members, New MPs nights in Trafalgar Square (over 200 people at the first event)
- Raised the profile of CF with a number of MPs through the events we have run (Michael Gove, Stephen Crabb to name just
two)
- Delivered a number of "How To" booklets to provide a starting place for CF branches and associations (particuarly How
to Run a Successful Event)
- Organised, supported and attended events from Newcastle to Loughborough, Manchester and London
- Campaigned in target seats throughout the country and encouraged others to do the same.
The above are some of the things that I was centrally involved in. The We also organised a student day conference organised
in Manchester taking into account the financial constraints on our students, and was specifically focussed on on-campus campaigning.
Other conferences took place in Reigate (organised by the fabulous Reigate CF) and there was one scheduled for West Midlands
CF organised by Nick Vaughan and Sam Beaver. Fresher's Fayre packs are already packed and ready to be sent to our
university Chairmen.
How will we deliver?
We will focus on setting up branches in 9 key target seats. This will require support from the centre, by visiting
the target seat, assisting in liasing with the area team, identifying inviduals to get involved, supporting them with regular
phone and e-mail contact, and giving whatever other support is necessary.
We will continue to deliver events in London, as well as focussing on increasing working life groups in our cities.
In universities, we will focus on retaining our members. I will be requesting all new University Chairman to focus on
getting non-university e-mail addresses, and up to date mobile numbers for all final year members. We will support our universities
through offering support where necessary.
